'The woes'
'The woes' is the designation that Oscar uses to
refer to the relationship between human and sufferings.
It’s about who am I, why am I, what am I, how am I, am I? Questions of self-awareness, purpose, and well-being with
elements such as longing, alienation, loss of self and decorum, identity or the doubts of it, etc.
The bodies in the paintings are helpless, multiplied, doubled, amputated, divided into parts, twisted,
fragmented, unconnected, disoriented within themselves and mangled.
However just still in balance with some resilience and self-pride left.
The works offer a strange familiarity, with each composition evoking forms and feelings arising
from an ever-changing complex sequence of reflections of these times.

With this series of 8 new paintings, Oscar stays loyal to the leitmotiv ‘being in that other side’.
This time with different approaches, styles, more impuls and drift.
After months of trail & error, studies and reflections the new series is finished.
It was a feisty process searching for the right compositions, formats (some man-sized), materials (some on sheets), brushstrokes, effects and colourtones.
Almost nobody saw glimpses of the works in process. In silence and at the right moments, he worked on them until the work needed nothing more.
After an incubation period (where the paintings were continuously around him and didn' start irritating him)
he knew ‘they have the right aura, they are finished’. All but two. These will not be made public yet.
